A Lie Too Brazen To Ignore

After exposing another newshound lie last night, we thought we were through with them for a while. But when it comes to smearing Fox News, they never sleep. When we saw what they're trying to pull this morning, there was no way we could let it pass without comment:

Greta Van Susteren Helps Hillary Appeal To The Super Delegates And Coincidentally Tear Down Obama
Greta Van Susteren, who usually restricts her show, On The Record, to lost cruise passengers and murdered blondes, joined the FOX News meme of tearing down Barack Obama last night (5/13/08) during what was ostensibly a “fair and balanced” discussion about the results of the West Virginia primary. Her only guest was none other than Karl Rove, Republican partisan extraordinaire.
Let's first dispense with the sneering mini-lie that On the Record is "restricted" to non-political stories. What about the interviews with George Bush, Laura Bush, Al Sharpton, Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton, and John McCain? Nightly coverage of the election is the rule rather than the exception, so much so that on Greta's blog there are regular complaints about too much politics.

Ellen wants people to think Greta's coverage was not "fair and balanced" because "her only guest" was Rove, a "Republican partisan extraordinaire". That was enough to convince the gullible kennel-dwellers:
  • There was a day when I had respect for Greta. There seemed to be a day when she had more respect for herself.
  • I liked her better in "Ilsa, She-Wolf of the SS."
  • The interview was disgraceful. A true low for FOX.
  • Good thing no one cares what Frankenstein's daughter thinks and no one takes her seriously
  • I was really shock [sic] to hear that Greta is married to a man. I really thought she was gay.
Only Ellen is not telling the truth. Immediately after Mr Rove Greta talked with Susan Estrich, Democratic partisan extraordinaire. A Republican followed by a Democrat? So fair and balanced that Ellen didn't dare report it. (Ms Estrich, by the way, just wrote an article on how Obama can win in November.)

But wait, there's more. After Susan Estrich came Juan Williams, commentator for National Public Radio.

Oh, one more thing. Two, actually. Greta's election coverage continued with Jeff Mapes of the Oregonian, and Joe Gerth of the Louisville Courier-Journal.

Ellen said nothing about any of these people, what they were asked, what they said, or the content of their analysis. She's playing the "invisible man" trick again, trying to making four people disappear with a sleazy, transparent fabrication. Greta's "only guest" was the Republican partisan Rove? Another Hound Lie.

Cecelia
Johnny,

It's the same mentality of Keith Olbermann and many on the left.

They don't like people on the right being included in program PERIOD. One Republican or one conservative view being aired is tantamount to holding a conservative pep rally, as far as they are concerned, let alone asking for an opinion from a Karl Rove.

These geniuses hold Juan and Susan suspect simply because they work for Fox News. That thinking is part of the relentless Catch 22 they use in lieu of argument. FNC should include liberals/ liberals who work for FNC are weak compromised. FNC shows should include both sides/liberal guests aren't treated fairly by FNC hosts.

Even their caveats have caveats...

The News Hounds and company aren't against partisan one-sided cable news networks as long as they are DNC TV 24/7.

It's beyond just an irrational opposition to liberals who work for Fox. It's almost a fear. They are so worried that Fox might appear fair and balanced that they have to concoct a LIE about Rove being the "only guest" and not even mention anyone else, for fear that the truth might not back up their lie.

This comment struck me as one of the most vicious I've ever seen especially in the context of if Greta's ersatz infraction was true:

First of all, when I said "only guest," I meant for the segment. Secondly, the point of the post was about Van Susteren's biased questions which you have not disputed. As usual, you try to distract from the substance of what we say in order to play some "gotcha" game over the trivialities. Lastly, I notice you did not include video or transcripts from those other interviews that supposedly balance out the baised interview with Rove.

As I think my post made clear, it was Van Susteren's bias that shocked me... to the point that, as I wrote, she made Rove look neutral. What a coincidence that she should happen to fall in line with the rest of the FOX News meme that gets displayed every night.

That Rove interview, by the way, is featured prominently on the On The Record website and does not refer to those other interviews that you reference.

You said Greta discussed the primary, and her ONLY guest was Republican partisan Karl Rove. You didn't say her "first guest", you didn't say her only guest in this segment. You said her "only guest". Period.

From what you state here, it sounds like you didn't watch Greta at all. You just spotted a video clip, posted it, and decided to toss in the fiction that this was Greta's only guest, as proof that the coverage was not fair and balanced. Do I have this right?

I mean, just yesterday we had Deborah lying about Megyn Kelly to smear her, and now this. Please convince me that it's all a big misunderstanding.

Why is that?I don't think the writer was seriously trying to draw any parallels with Nazis,as I've seen numerous times with "Hitlery".It may have been low-browed,but ,again,I don't think it was intended to be taken that seriously.I know a man who claimed that "Ilsa,she-wolf of the SS" was coming to his bachelor party.

Also conveniently not mentioned was a tape of Obama that Greta played during the Rove interview.

To be "fair and balanced" to both Dems and because Obama did not give a concession speech after West Virginia, Greta followed a clip of Hillary's victory speech with a clip of Obama from earlier in the day.

Arguably, Obama came off much better in the battle of video clips; Hillary looked tired and seem to lack some enthusiasm in her "victory" remarks.

Any regular viewer of "On The Record" knows that accusing Greta of being biased, either to the Republicans or to Hillary is absurd.

I stand by my original assessment that that is the product of a putrefying sick mind. No healthy mind with even a cursorsy knowledge of the Holocaust and its perpretrators would use that as a joke.

I say this especially b/c I have been feeling guilty since Blue brought up a video referenced at NH that I found amusing without thinking it through and understand that there are millions of people in the world who are at most one degree of separation from the horror of it.

I'm sorry Blue and everyone else. One would think that I had lived long enough by now to not lose my bearings in that way.

Greta is an important part of the mix at Fox. Interviewers have distinct personalities. O'Reilly challenges and confronts. Hannity ticks off lists of stuff. Colmes asks leading questions. Olbermann, since he only interviews people who agree with him, serves as a human mic stand, just accepting what he hears.

Greta does not argue with people. She is there to let the guest get their views across. She will hone in with lawyer-like, precise questions to nail things down but you won't often find her taking positions for or against a guest. It's not her modus operandi, whether she's talking to Karl Rove, Susan Estrich, or Al Sharpton.

As for the Bill parody,it was much more a reference to facial expressions than to politics.I've seen a photo montage of Hitler practicing in a mirror, and the resemblence was freaky. But "there's no accounting for taste".Some people don't care for Mel Brooks.

"Hitler has been the subject of gags in the Anglophone world for some time, in films such as The Producers, but not in Germany. Mein Fuhrer, The Truly Truest Truth about Adolf Hitler portrays him as a bumbling dictator in the last days of the war, forced to hire a fictional Jewish actor from a concentration camp to teach him how to make an uplifting speech that he hopes will rally Germany."

The entire article is here and briefly explores the dichotomy.

http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,1577614,00.html

I didn't see that movie but I have seen a much older movie with Mel Brooks named "To Be or Not To Be" which is about a Jewish troupe booked in Vienna when the Nazis take over. As far as I know there was not any controversy about it and the movie was very funny. Also the academy award winner a few years back treated a horrendous subject in a warm and funny way. These were generic movies with no tie to or purpose to hang the qualities of Naziism around a particular persons or group's neck other than real Nazis, which is NOT what happened today and to a lesser degree yesterday at NH.

In these cases Naziism, Hitler and Death Camp personnas are pinned on two people with absolutely no basis and God only knows why other than an unreasonable hatred of people who don't march in lockstep with them.

The hounds were the people who were involved in putting together the Outfoxed video by doing "research" (i.e. looking for little snippets they could take out of context and clip for effect). One of the producers of Outfoxed is Jim Gilliam, who is also aligned with Robert "Xanadu" Greenwald, the auteur of Outfoxed. Gilliam is the moneybags behind the newshounds. He bought the domain, paid for the registration, and keeps the site afloat with needed cash when necessary.

The general tone is very disturbing to me. I'm not a shrinking violet but virtually all of the posters use ad hominems and at the least a very nasty tone right off the bat. I haven't seen much reasonable discourse or back and forth with anyone who is not their ideological twin.

I have also had my citations to material that blows there theory out of the water totally erased and then accused of never having presented it. That doesn't sit too well with me either.

Something that I saw today from Pegleg Peg really surprised me b/c she had seemed reasonable and open minded. As best I can remember she wanted K Rove beaten, dragged behind a truck and then dressed in curly girly clothes and thrown in a cell with the meanest MFers in the world which led to much joking about how he would enjoy the MFer part.

We are not talking about Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Saddam and his sadistic sons but Karl Rove. I don't understand that kind of deranged in comparison to provocation hatred and it does disturb me.

Let me see if I understand this... you're annoyed that the folks over here focus on Newshounds... a group whose mission is to watch and report negative stories about FOX News.

If you think this is "pathetic," shouldn't you also think what Newshounds does is "pathetic?" After all, that's a whole business centered on hating and obsessing over another group.

The only difference between this place and Newshounds, is that here, (1) everyone is allowed to post, even if they disagree with the host's thesis, (2) J$ does not purposely lie to deceive those who read this site, and (3) it focuses on more than just one other group (Newshounds), and spends most of its time discussing cable news as a whole.

It seems to me, that if this site bothers you so much, that Newshounds should bother you doubly. They are everything you accuse this site of being, and more.

By the way, I just got another message deleted over there, suggesting to Deborah that she should issue a retraction for claiming Megyn Kelly said something she never said (praising Hagee, as pointed out in the stupid hound tricks post). The comment lasted about 5 minutes. She's all up in arms about how Kelly should issue a retraction for something--and once again, Deborah is using a doctored, phony quote from Kelly. Debbie is either an illiterate hack or a serial liar.

You people are amazing. You and your leader Dollar can't get the NewsHounds out of your minds. We are embedded in your minds. All you can do is rant and rave about what goes on over ar the NewsHounds.

What's it like to hate something and someone that bad that you think about it constantly?

That is truly pathetic.

Yes sir, that fact that we are embedded in your mind so you need to come over here to read and post is "truly pathetic".

Or you are just hypocritical?

But please do continue to post. I enjoy the laugh.

As always, great thanks.

NewsHounds monitors Fox, a nationally broadcast, supposedly "news" channel. Now is NewsHounds a nationally broadcast news station?

Do you get the point now, or should I type slower?

tony, tony, tony.

I couldn't give a rats ass about you. You need to get over yourself. Maybe some mental help.

Just look and see how often I post here. Of course I could do it more often but people like you drive people away.

Ah... so because FOX has more people watching it, and a bigger audience, it's okay?

Exactly when did that become a rule? How big an audience do you have to have before you can have someone making sure you don't lie?

You seem to be someone who's obsessed with Johnny Dollar... and he has far fewer people here, than they do over at Newshounds. So if you're allowed to watch J$, why isn't J$ allowed to watch Newshounds?

And sure, you might want to try typing more slowly... maybe then you won't spin yourself into more logical contradictions.

That is a point in contention. Bill Corcoran used to post articles there, and he insists that the NH falsely inflate their numbers via friendly sockpuppets.

I agree wiyh you completely except this particular cur only plays dirty pool and his sole objective is to insult and inflame!

I enjoy Eeyore b/c although he is TOTALLY AND COMPLETELY WRONG  he debates honestly and doesn't wildly insult people.

Ok, first of all, please stop repeating my name like that......it kinda creeps me out.

Second of all, although we enjoy debate over hear (unlike Newshounds who is afraid of debate) you bring nothing new. You are just a left wing anti USA nut. as a matter of fact, if you were one of us posting on Newshounds, you would be banned by now. So go play now and come back when you can wear your big boy panties.

As always, great thanks.

Though it did evoke an awful mental picture, Tony, I think you need to win Johnny's coveted Commenter of the Day award for the "big boy panties" quip.

Tony, I won the coveted Commenter of the Day award a few days back for my comment about john t.

Is it that we are superb writers or that john t writes it himself?

Nah, I can't give someone Commenter of the Day when they violated a rule (personal attack on another poster). Sorry tony. We REALLY do not like posters attacking each other here. Attack the message, not the messenger.
