As a "journalist" who within minutes of reporting the murder of three Philly police office, linked it to conservative Republicans, and who spent the majority of his coverage of the Sotomayor confirmation hearings trying to foment minority anger against Republican committee members, this condescending jackass sold out to political partisanship long ago.

Dirty Sanchez couldn't get a job at FNC cleaning Hannity's toilet. With an ego that big, you'd at least think he based it on something tangible instead of the farce that he's a success. It's a true measure of cowardice and moral ineptitude for someone to flee the scene of an accident that kills another human being.

Dirty Sanchez rant aside, a pic of Jenna Lee is glaringly missing from the weekend thread.

J$, Along with not living the scene, unlike Sanchez, Laura Bush wasn't drunk driving. Nor has she been blaming talk show hosts for the shooting deaths of police officers.

Maybe her car was too damaged to flee the scene or she had occupants in the car or witnesses at the scene, that made it a pointless exercise to flee. Do you have information to the contrary?

And what is it about conservative Christian phonies who claim to believe in redemption and forgiveness, but somehow that doesn't apply to somebody who doesn't share their politics.?

And if you think Sanchez shouldn't be able to work in television and be critical of others, what business did Laura Bush have being in the whitehouse repeatedly voicing her opinion on issues?

Um observer, we don't like it when people start dragging religion into these discussions. In case that wasn't clear, I'm talking about your 4:42 pm. I'm not sure I understand what Laura Bush has to do with this either. She didn't drive drunk, she didn't hit-and-run...she had an accident.

Sanchez, under the influence while driving, hit the guy, then scrammed home and had a few more to calm his nerves. If you want to argue that's irrelevant have at it. But it's clearly not 1/10 as irrelevant as Laura Bush--whose accident was nothing like Sanchez's, who wasn't drunk, who didn't flee the scene--oh, and who isn't on cable news (the subject of this blog, in case you forgot) talking about looking at himself in the mirror.

So let's avoid the off-topic excursions--especially if you want to attack people's religion, which is a no-no here.

Calling the owner of a website foul names ON HIS OWN WEBSITE, and complaining about not being deleted, and about being given a warning after calling believers "phony," accusing others of tying redemption to politics, playing a hypothetical "maybe" game to explain why Laura Bush was forced to do the right thing AND, insinuating some "think Sanchez shouldn't be able to work in television and be critical of others" when NO ONE made that assertion, then connecting that non-existant assertion to a totally different event in order to make a claim of hypocrisy about a First Lady speaking about issues might be considered hit-and-run posting while under the influence of stupidity.

The only thing that struck me about Julie's reply to Rick Sanchez was that she, at the encouragement of employers, decided to not use her legal birth surname, Bidwell, and went with hispanic family name, Banderas, to capitalize on her being hispanic. So Sanchez does have a point about using being hispanic as a selling point (or sell out).....

Not saying one is better than another, but Julie has agreed to use the race card by changing her name.

IMO it would make it worse for her to have changed it w/o encouragement of her employers....Makes it sound like she was exploiting her ethnic background for career opportunities...

I'm not suggesting anything I don't know the facts about. You claimed she did so at her employer's encouragement, but the link you cite says no such thing. Then you decide it's worse if she didn't have that encouragement. Kind of a quick fli-flop there: you make a supposedly damning point, and when you can't prove it, you decide that not proving is even more damning than the original point!

Why did Jonathan Leibowitz become Jon Stewart? Why did Larry King change his name? What in the Wide World of Sports does this have to do with being a 'sell-out'? And how could you possibly claim Sanchez 'has a point' about Banderas, when Sanchez himself insists he wasn't talking about her?

You need to get your logical ducks in order.

I claimed based on the link I provied yes. That is true. In included a (now defunked) link to the New York Observer (not known as a tabloid btw so I have no need to discount it)

Rick Sanchez suggested that as a hispanic he could cash in on that. Julie shot back. I found it odd that Julie would make such a shot since she deliberately changed her last name to highlight and cash in on her ethnic background and further her career. No biggie just like you suggested. But that was Sanchez's point

My logical ducks are in order J$. And I am not bothered by the implications.

I do have a question though that maybe you have an answer to....I noticed that the tweets you have linked to no longer show up on her page. Anyone know why she deleted them?

Prior to coming aboard WNYW, Ms. Banderas went by the name Julie Bidwell during on-air stints in Harrisonburg, Va., and Wilkes-Barre, Penn., among other locations. That prompted speculation among WNYW staffers that Ms. Banderas changed her name from Bidwell to Banderas to have a more ethnic-sounding surname. Ms. Banderas said that Banderas was a "family name," and that her mother and grandmother are of Colombian heritage. She also said the decision to make the change was made "together" with the station's management. "Her mom is Latin American and she chose to use that name to reflect that heritage, as lots of people in news do with their preferred names," said Ms. Van Allen, the Fox spokesperson. Gregg Willinger, Ms. Banderas' agent, said: "It's not that unusual in this business for people to have their names reflect their ethnic background, and Julie is Latina." But when asked if she was comfortable with her new on-air name, Ms. Banderas didn't sound particularly enthusiastic. "All I have to say is that I've adjusted to it," she said. "It's an adjustment. It's a change, I don't necessarily want to comment as to how I feel about it, whether it's a positive or a negative thing, I will say I have adjusted to it."

All I see is that she changed it reflect her Latina heritage. You know, the opposite of Jon Stewart who when he changed his name hid his ethnic heritage. So maybe you better boil it down a bit. Where does it say her employers encouraged her? And where does it say she did so to 'cash in'?

Hold on a cotton pickin' minuto!

Sanchez is clearly implying that FOX News would pay more money to an on-air talent just because they have an Hispanic name. That would mean, of course, that they would pay LESS to the same reporter if they had a non-Hispanic name; and likewise, that they would pay LESS to a different reporter with a non-Hispanic name.

Now, I could be wrong, even though the odds of that happening are approximately 7824.7 to one, but I believe that policy would violate several EOE laws against employee discrimination based upon race, color, religion, sex, ethnicity, or national origin.

Though in Mr. Sanchez's defense, banning employee discrimination based upon lack of talent, abbrasivenes and habitual acts of stupidity has evidently been implemented at CNN; proving once again, that CNN remains ahead of the curve as a groundbreaking media Goliath.

So... it looks like Ms. Banderas used her family's name to highlight her heritage.

Some might say that it was only part of her family history, and that she's not really 100% Latina (perhaps 50/50), and therefor she's picking and choosing which ethnicity and race she wants to highlight, to advance her career.

Hmmm...

Well, Wenchie, what opinion do you have of MS Hillary Rodham and her machinations to finally, or at least for now, settle on the most common practice even today of a woman taking her husband's surname upon marriage.

She was Hillary Rodham both before and after her marriage to Bill Clinton.

She changed to using Hillary Rodham Clinton after he lost his first bid for governor in conservative Arkansas and before his second victorious gubernatorial campaign.

She continued to use the HRC untill either some point in her husband's Presidency OR after when she has been using Hillary Clinton for her senatorial and then Presidential bid.

She has continued using Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State.

And there is always our current President and his variations of his name. During the campaign those who referred to him as B Hussein Obama or Barrack Hussein Obama were roundly and widely critiizised for both xenophobia and racism. Yet now he sometimes emphasizes the Hussen and has he and those in his admin sometimes highlight the Hussen.

You seem to consider Julie Bidwell/Banderas switching to her Hispanic maternal surname as something a bit sleazey that makes it improper to refer to her etnicity.
