Re: "Expose evaporates?": It's probably for the best. But the comment thread for that ICN post went off topic to Bill's Parade column on what the President can teach America's kids. Bill was slighted for citing blog comments (one from a Kossack, the other from somebody on the BillOReilly.com message boards). There was also a prediction that he would lose viewers because of that column.
Let's flash back to last night:
Daniel Jeffs, Apple Valley, CA: "Sorry, Bill, the article was wrong-headed. Obama is abusing his power. Wise up, you have angered your base."
Bill's response: "I don't think so, Dan. The article was directed toward children and everything written is true. My base...wants the truth."

And he's right. Most of his base, me included, are not ideologues. An example of his base came in the next e-mail:
Steve Chambers, Tulsa, OK: "Mr. O, great article! Your critics will be surprised about the positive lessons for kids."
Bill's response: "You know, my most vehement critics don't care about kids, Steve. They simply hate me. So, they'll vent that hate no matter what I do."
That probably goes more for his left critics than his right critics, but you get the idea.

P.S. I transcribed viewer e-mails (some, not all) last night for my private Google group. So, that's how I was able to lift those two e-mails out.

I have but one question for the lovely(shudder) Priscilla.

Would the actions of the Vietnam War protestors or 1968 protestors at the Democratic National Convention be considered "unamerican"?

I continue to get comments at my blog from he who shall remain nameless in response to whatever I say here. I did a Google search a few nights ago and you know what I found? He left a measured, civil comment at Alisyn Camerota's Greenroom blog some time last year. Why can't he be like that all the time? And how does he go from writing to Alisyn Camerota to hating the channel she works for and wishing its top commentator dead?

Let me present a quote from Teddy Roosevelt regarding criticims of the president. Maybe this will clear the fog from the brains of the some of our friends at the Heinous House of Hens.

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."

Big Momma Ellen seems to be concerned about Hannity asking people to got to PUBLIC fourms and take pictures or videos of the people at these forums.

Does Hannity Want Viewers To Snitch On Their Neighbors?
Reported by Ellen - August 11, 2009 - 20 comments

Here is a story and link for MIss Ellen.

WASHINGTON – The American Civil Liberties Union submitted comments today to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) opposing its recent proposal to reverse current federal policy and allow the use of web tracking technologies, like cookies, on federal government websites. Cookies can be used to track an Internet user’s every click and are often linked across multiple websites; they frequently identify particular people.

Since 2000, it has been the policy of the federal government not to use such technology. But the OMB is now seeking to change that policy and is considering the use of cookies for tracking web visitors across multiple sessions and storing their unique preferences and surfing habits. Though this is a major shift in policy, the announcement of this program consists of only a single page from the federal register that contains almost no detail.

“This is a sea change in government privacy policy,” said Michael Macleod-Ball, Acting Director of the ACLU Washington Legislative Office. “Without explaining this reversal of policy, the OMB is seeking to allow the mass collection of personal information of every user of a federal government website. Until the OMB answers the multitude of questions surrounding this policy shift, we will continue to raise our strenuous objections.”

The use of cookies allows a website to differentiate between users and build a database of each user’s viewing habits and the information they share with the site. Since web surfers frequently share information like their name or email address (if they’ve signed up for a service) or search request terms, the use of cookies frequently allows a user’s identity and web surfing habits to be linked. In addition, websites can allow third parties, such as advertisers, to also place cookies on a user’s computer.

Excellent ratings for FNC one again.

In "the demo", everyone except Shep beat MSNBC, CNN, and HN combined. Shep just barely missed it. Also, BORs rerun barely missed it too, but not his first-run show. As usual, it was a ratings homerun.

By the way Haggis, you never did share with us exactly what you told BOR concerning statistics. If you ever do want to educate him on statistics again, here are some statistics you should confront him with:

Americans have better survival rates than Europeans for common cancers. Breast cancer mortality is 52 percent higher in Germany than in the United States and 88 percent higher in the United Kingdom. Prostate cancer mortality is 604 percent higher in the United Kingdom and 457 percent higher in Norway. The mortality rate for colorectal cancer among British men and women is about 40 percent higher.

Americans have better access to important new technologies such as medical imaging than do patients in Canada or Britain...The United States has thirty-four CT scanners per million Americans, compared to twelve in Canada and eight in Britain. The United States has almost twenty-seven MRI machines per million people compared to about six per million in Canada and Britain.

So how come the US is 37th and the UK is 18th in the world heath rankings + The US spends 15.2% of GDP compared to the UK at 8.2% of GDP. Nearly double the amount of expenditure per year but still ranked 19 places below the UK. I'll keep my health care here....thank you very much. Frankly Haggis, I could answer your post by saying "so how come America leads in the recovery stats".

But let's look at what you wrote.

US is 37th and the UK is 18th in the world heath rankings

Well, those rankings by the WHO were made in the year 2000 and are based on data at least ten years old. Funny you failed to mention that. As there is no criteria for how that ranking was compiled, and because it is so stale dated, hard to comment.

The US spends 15.2% of GDP compared to the UK at 8.2% of GDP.

That is easy to believe. Actually Haggy, your stats confirm my stats. The lower % for the UK is the result of the UK not investing in medical infrastructure. Less MRI machines per person, few CT machines in the UK as I mentioned. With the excessively longer waits in the UK, payment for services is less frequent. It's easy to reduce medical costs, just don't spend. Obviously, the higher spend in the US can be attributed to investments in superior facilities and technologies, plus more spending on Doctors, quality wise. Together, the improved infrastructure and medical staff obviously produce the higher survival rates.

It's also common for citizens of the UK and Canada to come to the US for medical treatment. It is not common at all for citizens of the US to travel to Canada or the UK for the same.

You can certainly prefer your system which has the advantage of being listed about 8 inches higher than my system on a piece of paper printed 10 years ago, and I prefer my system where it is more likely that I will survive illnesses such as cancer.

Good night Haggis. For your sake, stay well.

By the way Haggis, since your statistics were ten years old, I found something more recent.

From the Gallup Site, dated March 2009, data collected 2006 -2008

Satisfaction with system:

UK - 85%
US - 83%

Dissatisfaction with system:

UK - 15%
US - 16%

Health Score Index

UK - 79
US - 78

GDP per Capita

UK - $37K
US - $48K

Hardly the 2x you cited with your out-of-date stats.

We're far from perfect in the US. We have our problems. But so does the US, and if you come down with cancer, you are better off in the US.
