I'm pretty sure Ellen wrote that article BEFORE FNC started any coverage... it's all so predictable, why would she need to actually wait?

Moreover, I'm sure she wrote that article will sitting on the much "kinder" obits for Tony Snow, Bob Novak, and all those other Conservatives whom they were all too happy to see go.

Hypocrisy runs deep... when you're consumed with hate.

The Kennedy's are a giant of a family.
It was ingrained in them at an early age to be involved in politics or other forms of public service to help people.

The same cannot be said about many of today's politicians who spend most of their time getting re-elected.

I didn't agree with is politics but Ted Kennedy actually walked the walk.

The outrageous gall of Fox to use the death of Kennedy to imply that the Democrats are eschewing a bi-partisan approach in Congress when it is precisely the opposite is about as low as you can get. But then, what's a new low for FNC?

Johnny, I haven't read anything so intensely gripping in a long time. I could grasp, only to a minor degree, what these heroes are enduring even better than in The Battle of the Bulge desriptions in Citizen Soldier by Stephen Ambrose's Citizen Soldier.

Mal is a photographer but writes as compellingly as master scribe.

"...it was apparent that even the Generals back at the Marines HQ at Camp Leatherneck were questioning just what had been achieved in two days of fighting given the new directives of how to fight this war"

The news re Afghanistan, which is a war that BHO has always supported, has been so sketchy lately that I was shocked to learn recently that the most recent monthly casulty figures were 40+. So, what are these "new directives", who promulgated them, when and why?

If this had been GWB re Iraq I am sure we would have been buried with info wrapped in shrill spin.

Last night's Bernard Goldberg appearance on BOR was truly excellent television.

BG brought up an excellent point. questions about the validity of the Bush Texas ANG documents aside, Mary Mapes is one dishonest and pitiful newsperson. She deliberately concealed evidence which was contrary to the point of the news piece.

Though you may disagree and consider it good reporting, but it was deceitful for Mapes to not have reported IN THE ORIGINAL PIECE that Bush had volunteered to go to Viet Nam.

She does a piece to promote the point that Bush wanted to avoid Viet Nam AND she refused to mention that she herself had evidence that Bush volunteered to go. She deserved to be fired.

Was anyone else here aware of this?

I had no idea that a independent panel, initiated by CBS News, had found that Pres. Bush had volunteered to go to Nam.

Putting aside the fact that Goldberg's point is lost on Haggis and Felix Gillette, I'm stunned that even though it was mentioned in the CBS independent panel's report, and in MAPES' BOOK, Goldberg could find no big media references to it other than the two OPINION pieces that he mentions!

RedAmerican,

NOTHING Gillette uses in his NYO piece gibes with his OWN argument.

Goldberg made several points:

That Mapes had been aware (via "sources") that Bush volunteered for Vietnam and never put that in her CBS hit piece (She merely mentions it in her much later book about the scandal.)

That the media never covered the fact of Bush volunteering or the fact that Mapes held back that info in the she wrote for 60 Minutes (which Dan Rather delivered).

How does Gillette dispute any of Goldberg's points here?

Haggis's posts are unworthy of response or comment. They're disengenuous, unresponsive, diversionary, often irrelevant, and fraught with inconsistent positions.

Anyone who has attempted to engage him in civil discourse has a long list of unanswered questions, ignored requests for verifications, evaded demands for examples, and accusations of dishonesty laughed-off with personal ridicule.

As far as the Person Behind The Posts, ad hominem attacks are never appropriate in civil discourse. Suffice it to say, in the words of the Teacher, "By their fruits you will know them."

Ramjet, I think Haggis has answered most of the questions he was asked, if it was not the answer you guys wanted to hear then that is your problem, as soon as Haggis says one thing negative towards Fox News you all go into attack mode, Fox News has its faults and like it or not they have an agenda just like MSNBC does. I hope someday that the Fairness Doctrine gets passed to stop the lies and obvious smears by the likes of Olbermann, O'Reilly, Beck, Hannity and Limbaugh.
If you guys would watch Morning Joe on MSNBC you would see one of the few cable news programs with no agenda, and Scarborough is a Conservative and at least lets both sides have some say, Fox and Friends...which seems to be Haggis' biggest problems is not even close to being fair, occassionally you will get Beckel and Williams but the show loses all credibility when they let Beck go on his rants about...whatever the hell he is talking about. Doocy and Carlson are obvious Conservatives and Kilmeade is just a plain moron.
I watch Fox News but shows like Friends, Beck, Cavuto, Hannity and Van Sustren are agenda shows, pushing the networks obvious conservative agends, Greta used to play the middle but not any more..
Another thing is why if anyone disses Fox are they called a hater, most in here have some obseession with Olbermann, how can any of you throw stones at Haggis when most have the same dislike for Olbermann.
Who spins the agends more Olbermann or the friends probably a tie. It is not a lie it is called spin.
Another thing Haggis brought up was ratings, I believe CNN had more daily viewers than Fox, why not talk about that, the likes of O'Reilly, Hannity, and Beck get monster ratings, why....because as a recent poll showed Conservatives outnumber liberals by a 1/3., most Conservatives would be drawn to those kinds of programs. Do you all realize that Fox News had zero Emmy nominations this year, why because of the agends that some have, PBS led the way with 41 nominations, it not bacause of media bias like Fox News like to throw around it is because PBS has no agenda.

Not so, many more unanswered questions than answered. Ramjet's analysis is "spot on".

"I hope someday that the Fairness Doctrine gets passed to stop the lies and obvious smears by the likes of Olbermann, O'Reilly, Beck, Hannity and Limbaugh. "

The Fairness Doctrine would not apply to Cable News. Do you really want Government to decide what gets broadcast?

"Another thing Haggis brought up was ratings, I believe CNN had more daily viewers than Fox"

Yes, he brought it ratings, and it turned out that what he was bringing up was wrong. "Had" is the correct word as we are talking ancient history here.

"it is because PBS has no agenda."

You have got to be kidding.

PBS has no agenda, Ashley, Bill Moyers is one of the most trusted newsman on television.
Yes I think Government should get involved in what is shown on televsion to stop news organazations from both sides from having an agenda and report the news as it is, and let the people decide, what we need in more David Brinkley's, John Chancellors and Ted Kopells and less Bill O'Reilly's, Keith Olbermann and Sean Hannity's.

I believe you problem Ashley, is that you don't see it from Haggis side, he is giving his opinion of what he has heard, just like you do. Do you want him to tell you that you are right and the Fox News is the greatest think since sliced bread or fire? Would that make you happy, if you really look he does answer your questions and if you are too Conservative to handle a liiberal response then that is your problem.

So, you want to take away viewpoints and THEN let the people decide over what is left of broadcast opinion. Gotcha.

"what we need in more David Brinkley's, John Chancellors and Ted Kopells and less Bill O'Reilly's, Keith Olbermann and Sean Hannity's. "

Let's see:

Brinkley - Newsman
Chancellor - Newsman
Kopell - Newsman

BOR - News Analyist who claims to be a news analyst and not a newsman.

Hannity - News Analyist who claims to be a news analyst and not a newsman.

Olby - News Analyst who claims to be a newsman.

You're talking about apples/oranges.

And as far as Bill Moyers, he has a specific left wing agenda.

By the way Al. Have you ever posted here before this week under the name Al Frankenstein or under another name? If so, what was that name.

Al Frank 'n steen,

(1) Unless you're using a sock puppet (current odds at Raj's Betting Parlor are 7:5 in favor), I believe you're a relatively new commentor hear at J$P. IF that is the case, I suggest you do some research into the archives to see for yourself, as it is obvious you won't take anyone's word that Haggis has a long record "of unanswered questions, ignored requests for verifications, evaded demands for examples, and accusations of dishonesty laughed-off with personal ridicule."

(2) Giving you the benefit of the doubt as a newbie, I'll give you a pass this one time for your aggogant and condescending remark, "... if it was not the answer you guys wanted to hear then that is your problem."

(3) I have absolutely no problem with Haggis, or anyone else, saying anything negative about FOX News. I've done it myself. I do have serious problems with people who put others down with distortions, misrepresentations, false accusations and outright lies. In other words, I have a serious problem with Haggis's posts.

(4) I watch Mornin' Joe every morning. So much for biased assumptions and blanket assertions.

(5) I strive daily not to hate people. Some days I'm less successful than others. Haggis has never come within a country light year of being someone I hate.

(6) Your opinion of the reason for FOX News' ratings is not only incorrect, it's naive.

(7) FYI-I have an Emmy Award "Honors" on my table in the living room.

No I have not posted here before.
No it is not apples and oranges and Olbermann has never made that claim.
What I am saying is that if you call it a news channel it should be about the news, not opinions, Fox News has how many Conservative orientated shows, I would say at least four, Friends, Hannity, Huckabee and O'Reilly. How many liberal shows does MSNBC have three Olbermann, Maddow and The Ed Show, what about CNN and PBS, zero.
Those networks have no agenda.
As for you comments about Moyers you could not be more wrong that is like saying Bill O'reilly is not a egomaniac. But Ashley you are conservative what else would expect.
You are right I do not want the news analyzed I want it read and then let me make my opinion, that is why FOx News and MSNBC are not better than tabloid television excpect for the likes of Shep, Brett Baier, Carlos Watson and Joe Scarbourough .

Then why is it can more Conservatives afford cable or do people want to watch Beck 'Cry" or O'Reilly make the story about himself. Fox does show that it is a well ran operation, I mean they have way better personalities that any of the big three cable outlets, but besides for a few it is not a news channel just like MSNBC is should be called Fox Opinion Network, I am middle road when it comes to my political views but Fox never went after Bush this way, never. Just like MSNBC annoited Obama, they hardly touch him, It is just sad that news has come to this, let me read an article on Kos or something you read in the Wash Post twist the words and then make it fit your agenda, Fox does it MSNBC does and to me that is just selling out.

Well then did someone sneak into your house and use your IP address? Hey I don't care if you posted here before or not. But it's better to ignore questions like that than to misrepresent--just a general comment, not directed at you or anyone else.

Al F - so much to dispute, so little time.

You don't want news analysis with your news, you don't want to hear other's opinions before you form yours? Then I recommend that you don't watch cable news.

Olby not making that claim? He made that claim when he assumed the role of news anchor during the conventions. You don't agree, so we agree to disagree on that. Same with Bill Moyers and PBS.

I did not ignore 1-5, I have went back and read some of Haggis posts and while very ellusive with some of his answers he does no more than some of you do spin something Olbermann said, Haggis just spins and sometimes in a very interesting way to make his point. It is like Haggis being Haggis.

Please give an example of us "spinning something Olbermann said".

Spinning indicates that we are twisting the meaning of something said. What was it?

Hey Al,

Your newbie status is quickly wearing thin. You don't believe me, you don't believe Ashley, you don't believe the Big Buck. Rather, you "have (sic) went back and read some of Haggis posts" and determined he's merely "very ellusive with some of his answers." Haggis is definitely being Haggis when he posts "disengenuous, unresponsive, diversionary, often irrelevant, and fraught with inconsistent positions" comments.

He does, in fact, have a long record "of unanswered questions, ignored requests for verifications, evaded demands for examples, and accusations of dishonesty laughed-off with personal ridicule."

You, on the other hand, seem to be in a hurry, trying to amass a a record of being not exactly truthful; i.e., "No I have not posted here before," and being accusatory of others in your ardent defense of Haggis, "...he does no more than some of you do spin something Olbermann said..."

Recess is over! Please provide evidence of:

1. My spinning something Olberman said.
2. Someone here spinning something Olbermann said (Do #2 only after #1 is completed).

The Mediaite Article about Olby's "under 35" lie made TV Newser. In the comments section over there, I found this little ditty from a poster there ("Redzilla"), I thought everyone might like to see this excellent analogy.

"I've said it before...comparing FOX to MSNBC is like comparing a bullet that is fired from a gun to one that is thrown by hand."
