Newsweek & it's writers are particularly bitter regarding the rise of alternative sources of information and their demise as a major opinion shaper. I can't pretend to speak for Bill, but my guess is that he could care less about anything Rick Perlstein has to say about him. Can you imagine the kind of hate mail any FoxNews personality gets on a daily basis. They don't whine about it either like crybaby Rick.

I have a theory as to why these other shows are losing audience while FNC is gaining in audience members.
It's important to make this clear lest anyone think that FNC continuing success is due to interesting shows, great hosts, challenging guests, and content that brings all sides to the table.
During a Democratic Administration, rightwingers must hide at FNC in order to immerse themselves in Republican talking points and shield themselves from reality.
During Republican Administration rightwingers must hide at FNC in order to immerse themselves in Republican talking points and shield themselves from reality.
During a Republican or a Democratic Administration, FNC gains NEW audience members because even MORE rightwingers are flocking to the channel in order immerse themselves in Republican talking points and shield themselves from reality.
I hope this helps you to understand the various dynamics involved in the phenomenon of increasing FNC ratings, Johnny.
After all, we wouldn't want you shielding yourself from reality...

I agree, Mike. I would also be out tonight if Bush had called a presser to strike-up support for Social Security reform.
Looking at it regarding fairness and objectivity.....two things are different, though.....
Primetime pressers were once rare, the trend for the last 6 months is not encouraging.
Also, the major networks (not the cablers) refused Bush primetime for some speeches.....
We'll see if that ever happens. :lol:

I halfheartedly watched the Obama al Malaki (?) press conference this afternoon on Fox, natch.
When I first looked up I could tell it was obviously outdoors but I couldn't place the location from the close head shot b/c the back drop was a glass paned window that I didn't recognize. My first thought was why aren't they in the Rose Garden which has been the normal outdoor venue as long as I can remember.
When they pulled back to the long shot I saw that they were in the Rose Garden but were so close to the WH b/c a small wooden ramp led to a small stage that was ringed with potted flowering plants.
It was obvious that TOTUS was giving the speech and I surmised that was the reason for the unusual set up. Perhaps TOTUS doesn't sit well on the lawn.
Or am I just being overly picky b/c it IS Obama? I just don't remember ever seeing a set up like that before.
BTW, I think al Malaki had neither notes nor a teleprompter.

I realize there's a bit of a history of bad blood between the WH folks and Cavuto and calling Cavuto a racist for criticizing the WH ( even more idiotic-- a Cavuto guest criticizing the WH) is the nastiest of nasty politics.

I tried to see the video at News Hounds but the video didn't work for me.
I did notice that Ellen had posted on the topic at one o'clock something in the afternoon. Doesn't Cavuto come on at 4pm?
It seems to be there some incident at NH before, where people there painfully and very very very slowly had to walk John T through a time stamp issue, after he made an accusation against -- I can't remember her name-- the one who's always reminding everyone that she's Canadian.
It's all been deleted, of course, but it was comical, and I don't think John T. EVER got what they tried to convey.

It wasn't, of course, one of NH's videos. A lot of their posts these days recycle other people's videos. It was a segment that aired yesterday on Cavuto, where Cavuto defended the Atty General against the guy who said she was too fat to be SG. Anyone who has seen Cavuto for any length of time knows he has little use for the 'fat police', and has argued against this sort of thing repeatedly. Ellen, of course, following the lead of the Fox hater site she recycled from, blames Fox for even addressing the issue...even though Cavuto was just picking up on what Salon.com and ABC news had already raised. And in fact was defending the SG against the attacks!
But none of that matters to the newsliars. The video Ellen regurgitated was from yesterday's show; the one I posted was from today's show. It was impossible for Ellen to have posted the same video I did because the video I put up only happened about two hours before I put it up!
John t does get what people try to convey, but he doesn't care. He'll make any charge he wants, call names, make up facts, and it doesn't matter that he's wildly, hilariously wrong. He will never admit a mistake, let alone confess to a lie. That's a recipe for a long stay on Exile Island, so the several additional comments he tried to post tonight were deleted on sight, since none of them started out with, "I admit I was wrong." Words that will never be typed on john t's keyboard.

B - that was all just so darned funny. Even the l'il feller had his own argument with someone there over it. He was complaining that someone had edited his time stamp.
He was simply not able to grasp the concept that his own post which would display at 8 AM (Central Time) would show on another posters view at 10 AM (Pacific Time) assuming that person has their settings on pacific time and the l'il feller has his set on central time.
